They are all so gorgeous! Favourites are from assorted group, numbers 023, 043 and 046. Group Meangirls, number 001 made me LOL! Great work on the wallpapers too! ;)
Shannonkungfuwaynewho on August 26th, 2010 10:52 am (UTC)
Thanks! 23 from Assorted was actually one of the last ones I did yesterday, and I wasn't sure if I liked it or not, so I'm glad you did!

I was most excited by the Mean Girls quotes I didn't have the change at all.

Hahaha, are there any other Sinclair ones you'd like without bright spots?

I, like, totally failed on the icon request thing. "Here's your icons! I covered them up with glowy shit!"

I like the icon you made! I can't think of anything I'd do any different with that image. You know, except maybe COVER IT WITH DAZZLING LIGHTS.

Aw, I'm having a great time, too. I was telling some of my friends the other day how much fun I was having back in fandom again; I haven't been active in a fandom in ten years. And this time I'm actually being a positive member of a community, instead of just trolling message boards and being a shit. (True story.)

To me, he's always looked like an actor from the 40s or 50s. Like, sometimes I'll watch an old movie and be struck by the thought that people just looked different back then; I don't really know how to explain it. I always kind of got that sense from his acting, too, especially his voice. That coupled with the fact that the character of Sinclair is such a non-traditional SF TV action male lead really gave the first season a very unique quality; I was struck by it even in the first episode.

Why hello there, Gil Grissom. I miss Gil and Sara. :(

Love these! I grabbed the second wallpaper, and I've got this page bookmarked to come back for icons when it's not, like, 1 am.

Thanks! Seriously, I always seem to stumble on icon posts late at night after I've taken my contacts out.
xphilehbxphilehb on September 4th, 2010 03:38 am (UTC)
Finally got round to loading up on some B5 icons. I took 32, 36, 42, 46 and 52, and of course, will credit. Yay! Thanks.

Wow, these are great! The Byron one with the quote is the most perfectest thing, it made me LOL so bad. I also love love love the Ivanova wallpaper (of course), and the last one from WWE.
Shannonkungfuwaynewho on August 26th, 2010 10:54 am (UTC)
Thank you! The Byron icon might be my favorite from that set. Just because he obviously does have a wide-set vagina.
nhpwnhpw on August 26th, 2010 12:25 pm (UTC)
Wow, you've been busy! These are great. You're right, that Ivanova wallpaper IS Like a Boss.

If I had to pick favorites I'd say 044 and 047 and - can I tell you how much the facial expression in 051 gets me EVERY FRICKIN' TIME. Ugh. Gorgeous angst. Just gorgeous.

Also, He's fabulous but he's evil - It's funny 'cuz it's true.
Shannon: bsg ellenkungfuwaynewho on August 26th, 2010 04:10 pm (UTC)
Wow, you've been busy!

Oh, not too busy. I had about twenty or so of these done before I ever signed up, so I just kind of hung on to them. Then it was just a couple a day, and you know, being unemployed does have its perks. ;)

I'm glad you liked 47! I loved the cap but could not figure out WTF to do with it, so I finally asked myself, "How would I have made this icon in 2005?" Et voila.

51 I totes capped by accident. I was looking for something else and just happened to pause during that scene and was just like, wow. That's...wow.
nhpwnhpw on August 26th, 2010 05:20 pm (UTC)
I must've been in a different kind of mood this morning. I just realized I listed three favorites and none of them were of Sheridan. *pause* *frown*

Maybe that's because he's always gorgeous, no matter what. Yeah. That must be it.

042 - Can I give him a cookie and a hug? He really looks like he needs a hug. And everybody who gets an owie like that and doesn't cry deserves a cookie. :P
Shannonkungfuwaynewho on August 26th, 2010 05:33 pm (UTC)
Forty-twooooooooo. I picked my three faves as the teasers, so yeah, I love that one. (I like to think Delenn gave him a cookie and a hug - imagine I said that in Joey Tribbiani's voice so it sounds dirty.) Honestly, though, with Bruce and Mira, I feel like I could just hit pause at any time and get a great cap; they're both so expressive and pretteh.
nhpw: sdalmostkissnhpw on August 26th, 2010 05:47 pm (UTC)

Also, I do not feel like working right now, which has nothing to do with icons but - they are a nice distraction. :)

Beautiful work! I snagged a number of icons and the wallpapers, and I will credit when I use.

How great! But, man what a lot of work. Thanks for sharing.
Shannonkungfuwaynewho on August 26th, 2010 10:58 pm (UTC)
Thank you! Most of the work was finding the best strategy to deal with B5's horrible, horrible film stock, and once I did that I just made a Photoshop action and Bob's your uncle.
ghanima sun: b5 - ivanovaghanimasun on August 27th, 2010 02:10 am (UTC)
First of all, there is so much stuff here, and it makes me all excited :D Secondly you've managed to make all your icons look very sleek and pretty, something which I have not yet figured out how to do!

My favorites MOTFL 4, 8, 15
Assorted 5, 8, 23, 25, 29, 36, 39, 45, 54, 56
And of course all of the individual character shots are great too. I am going to be saving probably like half of these icons because they are all just so pretty. I love the way you make them look so smooth and soft and there are some really dramatic crops, which I always love!

I also love the first wallpaper in particular - perfect quotes, and I like how you have them in a sort of simple font and just spread around the center image. It's really effective at bringing a lot of emotions and memories out with just a few simple lines.
Shannon: b5 candlekungfuwaynewho on August 27th, 2010 02:26 am (UTC)
First of all, OMG, your icon. That's amazing.

Thank you! Earlier today 48 was my favorite Delenn icon, but now it's 45. It will probably be something else tomorrow.

I'm trying to figure out what you mean by sleek, because I don't see any difference between yours and mine - and I even went back to your journal to check! I will say that I read a tutorial only a few months ago that has helped me out considerably - after you've either merged down, or I always create a new layer and then shift-alt-control-e to merge everything into that, then duplicate it before you sharpen. Then, you can adjust the opacity of that layer instead of having just the one shot to Fade Sharpen and then you're stuck with it. That tutorial (and I have no idea where I read it) changed my life, not even kidding.

I don't know if you'd be interested, but here's the action I made for cleaning up B5 caps. The orange/green gradient in this folder? IS AMAZING. I slap it on top of everything on Soft Light and it brightens, adds flesh tones to grayish caps (90% of B5, ugh), etc. LOVE IT.

Now I want to hear your secrets. :D
ghanima sun: j/dghanimasun on August 27th, 2010 10:58 pm (UTC)
I love that icon too, it was made by the talented ruuger.

I really appreciate the tips and the links to the PS actions. I've never used them before, but I'm going to give it a try this weekend for sure.

I don't know how to describe it but your icons look so like, smooth and mine look sorta grainy to me sometimes. I'm probably not explaining it well, and possibly just imagining it, so don't worry about it! And I wish I had some awesome tips or something to share with you. But I usually don't have a clue what I'm going to do and randomly start fixing colors or slapping on textures. Are all the glowy parts of these icons textures or is it something you like painted on? I've tried doing light blobs or whatever people call them, but they always end up looking terrible.
Shannonkungfuwaynewho on August 28th, 2010 12:46 am (UTC)
I find that if I use the crop tool sometimes my icons get a little grainy/over-sharp. I always open a new 100x100 file and drag my pic over when I'm done with my color corrections and shit, then scale it from there. I like that because it lets me adjust the crop later on if I change my mind - and it's easier for me to figure out which crop I want in the first place if I just drag the pic around - I can never tell what it'll actually look like with the crop tool. So maybe that's it? IDK.

Heh, I randomly slap on textures almost every time. Trial and error. I never figure out what I'm going to do before I start. Some of the lights are light effect textures, some are gradients I've set to Soft Light or Lighten, some are white gradients to transparent set on Normal.

When you say light blobs, do you mean the, like, single floaty dot of light right in the middle of the icon? I've seen a grand total of one icon that actually made that work. I don't have it uploaded here; it's a Number Six icon I've got saved away somewhere in one of my icon example folders. I'll have to find it.
ghanima sun: stupidghanimasun on August 28th, 2010 05:11 pm (UTC)
Well first, I do always just use the crop tool, and that might be part of why my icons seem so grainy. I've been trying it the way you described (I think) but I'm not sure how much of a differences it's making yet.

And I've been trying out the action and the gradient folder you linked to before - um those are both extremely awesome and useful! I'm such a noob I've never even seen an action thingy before, but once I figured out how to make it work, it was like magic. Thank you so much!

By light blob I more meant like what you have on icons such as 30, 41, 42, which are I guess just gradients. That makes sense, I just have to try to mess with them some more to make mine come out better I think.

Now I'm off to play more with those extremely helpful downloads and all the tips. Thank you again :D
Shannonkungfuwaynewho on August 28th, 2010 06:36 pm (UTC)
I find I had problems with the crop tool when I cropped to 100x100 with a pretty large picture with no stages in between; to sharpen it to clarity seemed to make it too sharp. Then again, I sometimes have a hard time with sharpness because I make icons on a computer with an old monitor; so maybe what you see as smoothness is just me not sharpening enough!

OMG, the first icon tutorial I read where someone explained how to use actions, it completely changed my life. You mean I don't have to manually duplicate my background and set it to all these different things and adjust levels EVERY SINGLE TIME I make an icon?!

The lights in those icons are textures just set to Screen. Im'ma zip up a folder of the textures I use most an upload it here in a bit; my sister is downloading Sherlock on my computer right now and my bandwidth is at like nothing.

Thank you! I had way too much fun with the Mean Girls ones. Then again, I adore Mean Girls and quote it all the time; you'd think I'd come up with new material after five years.

Many mornings I finish my breakfast and then announce to the kitchen, "Today is an ass-picious day." Why that is my favorite Firefly quote, I don't know.

That reminds me, I've been meaning to do a Buffy rewatch for, like, three years. I get my DVDs out and then just end up watching Spike episodes and calling it a day.

Yeah, that character archetype pretty much nails me every time. I'm helpless to resist. I was actually talking about this to nhpw the other day; it's the whole super sexy + woobie thing.

I've never had an actor/character crush like I did on James/Spike. It was kind of ridic.

Sinclair icons yeahhhh! #1 also gorgeous. Kosh win!
Beautiful icons. I swear, I get warm fuzzies every time I see sheridan/delenn icons. ahh. I'm a tool :P

Thanks! I definitely got the warm fuzzies making those icons, too. ;)
