NaScreeWriMo - Day Six
ETA:  Had good thinkings last night instead of sleeping - am scrapping these two scenes.  Will talk more about why later.

Only two scenes today.  I'm not sure if they even advance the plot.  Hmm.

INT. GUEST ROOM - MORNING

Mira sits in the chair, in the dress from the night before. Wide awake, calm, and watching the door.

The door OPENS. Mira betrays little reaction. Janos enters.

JANOS
I am Father Janos.

Mira says nothing.

JANOS (CONT’D)
Will you come with me?

MIRA
Do I have a choice?

JANOS
God gives us all free will.

Beat. She stands, follows him out.
INT. CHAPEL - DAY

Mira looks automatically for the font inside the doors, but there isn’t one. Janos heads right up to the altar.

MIRA
You seem quite young to be the personal
priest to such a wealthy and powerful man.

JANOS
Each and every resident of the village is
a member of my flock, no less important
than the Count. Come and pray.

Mira joins him but does not kneel.

MIRA
I am married. Joined to another in the eyes
of God. The Count cannot revoke that on a whim.

JANOS
I have prayed that he will cleave
again to his wife.
MIRA

Will you tell him that he cannot just take
me? Will you tell him that?

JANOS
I am not in the position to tell the Count anything.

MIRA
But you are a man of God. Surely he will listen to you.

Janos just smiles - a little sad, a little patronizing.

Mira gathers herself to ask a difficult question.

MIRA (CONT’D)
Last night, something happened to me. I saw things...

JANOS
(takes her hands)
You were tired, and upset. Do not worry, my child.

Mira lets him guide her to her knees. She bows her head, PRAYS.

Janos goes behind the altar. Fills the crystal goblet with red wine - the liquid pours a little too thick.

He carries the goblet to Mira. Brings it to her lips.

SMILES as she drinks.
