Mega Halloween Music Sharing Post

Is there any time of year better than autumn, and any holiday better than Halloween?  Crisp air, the scents of burning leaves and mulled cider, ghosts and ghoulies lurking in dark shadows - you just can't beat it.  If Christmas gets to have hundreds of hymns and carols, I figure Halloween should be no different.

Come on in!  Grab a few songs!  Posting your own isn't required, but if you have any you'd like to share, throw them out there!  And feel free to spread the link around - the more the merrier!  Or spookier.

Other Albums

(These represent albums from which I just couldn't pick out one or two songs, so I uploaded the whole shebang!  Some might quibble with the inclusion of the medieval chant album, but I love that kind of music and find it appropriately haunting for the season.)

(The original Dracula has no score; in 1998 Universal asked Philip Glass to compose one for an upcoming rerelease.)
 Sample Track: "The Inn"

Sample Track: "Puisque bele dame m'eime"

Sample Track: "The Unforgiven"

Sample Track: "Legacy of Sorrow"

(Some of these tracks are ones I acquired a long time ago.  If you have any of these in better quality, feel free to upload, along with any other scary, spooky, creepy, haunting, and Halloween-y songs you might have!)

Thank you! I probably put more up than was necessary BUT I JUST LOVE HALLOWEEN SO MUCH AND I HAVE SO MUCH APPROPRIATE MUSIC.

Halloweeeeeeeen! This is very nifty! I snagged the Anonymous 4 album, as one can never have enough Anonymous 4. The pun in their name always makes me giggle. Have you heard any of their folk and gospel covers? Some of them are A-MA-ZING.
Shannon: got catelynkungfuwaynewho on October 3rd, 2011 12:41 am (UTC)
(I'm going to hate myself after you answer, but what is the pun? I've been staring at it for like five solid minutes trying to figure it out.)

(Puns are not my forte.)

I have not heard them do anything but the medieval-type stuff! I have what CDs my library has. I'll see what I can find through ILL.
Icepixie: [BSG] Starbuck pianoicepixie on October 3rd, 2011 01:21 am (UTC)
Don't feel bad. This pun is really only noticeable if you've taken a music history class. :) From wikipedia: "The name of the group is a pun on the name used to refer to an anonymous English music theorist of the late 13th century, Anonymous IV, who is the principal source on the two famous composers of the Notre Dame school, Léonin and Pérotin."

Their two Americana CDs are Gloryland and American Angels. Grooveshark has almost everything from Gloryland. My particular favorites are "Return Again" and "Wayfaring Stranger."

Heh, okay. I'm glad it wasn't something totally obvious. (I kept thinking it was some sort of embedded joke, and I was like, "does 'non' mean something?!" Never underestimate how thick and gullible I can be.)

Turns out we have American Angels but not Gloryland. I'll check out a couple tracks, see if I want to grab it from elsewhere. thanks!

I can't believe you did all this! I downloaded them all (except the Anon 4 which is giving me http error messages. But then my Firefox has been acting tres weird lately.) This will right get me in the mood...*evil cackle*. Thanks!

(The theme from Millenium? I haven't watched that show in ages. And my Carmina Burana is stuck on vinyl. Have you got a translation of the words? I love that they are all drinkin' and fornicatin' songs with such a creepy vibe!)
Shannonkungfuwaynewho on October 3rd, 2011 12:44 am (UTC)
I wasn't planning to put up this many, heh. The original plan was Philip Glass, Nox Arcana, and one mix CD. And...yeah.

Boo that the Anon 4 didn't download. Tell me if it continues to not work and I'll reupload.

I only watched the first season of Millennium, but I remember it being super-creepy. I should maybe rewatch some, if I ever get a chance. I don't have a translation of the Orff; I know it borrow from a medieval collection of poetry, but I've never actually read any of it.

Shannon: dexter ghostskungfuwaynewho on October 3rd, 2011 02:21 am (UTC)
I think that was actually a good method. I intend to reply to things all the time then just wander off and forget. This way you had like a built-in reminder system!
Kim: (Fringe) Olivia Close-Upcifan70 on October 3rd, 2011 01:22 am (UTC)
This is great. I took the not so creepy mix. Those are great songs. Thanks for sharing.

No problem! I have so many songs from sharing posts like this, it's nice to put some out there myself for a change. :D

..OK this has so many songs I kind of wondered if I should slap an album cover on it and give it a proper name, lmao. WHATEVS.

Let's see. It's kind of a cross of songs that are "lol monsterz" and songs that are a titch on the creepy side of things. I also feel like a sizable portion of these came from a Halloween mix I picked up a few years ago, but whatevs.

Also I've no idea if we have any repeats yet, lawlz. I'm actually just getting to download your stuff now.
Shannon: drh evil laughkungfuwaynewho on October 3rd, 2011 02:23 am (UTC)
No repeats that I see. Though I totally did have Re: Your Brains in my playlist I set up; just...never ended up sticking it in one of the uploads, LOL. The rest of these I do not have save for The Decemberists and the St. Vincent, so am very excited! Yay!

Love the playlist of the not so creepy mix^^

I just love 'Mack the Knife' ♥

I'm still working through entries I have to catch up with so I will be back after that (so that means tomorrow the earliestXD) to go through all the mixes again to see what I know and what to download^^
Shannonkungfuwaynewho on October 4th, 2011 02:40 am (UTC)
Mack the Knife is seriously the best. I'd listened to it for years without knowing what was going on, then saw it on one of those "did you know this song is creepy?" lists and ACTUALLY LISTENED TO IT. Amazing.

And if there's just one song you want off a mix and not the whole thing, just let me know and I can upload just that. :D
Martinela_loony on October 4th, 2011 10:39 am (UTC)
I remember I first fell for the song when I got the soundtrack for 'What women want' and my English wasn't that good so I didn't understand much of it. Later when I heard it again I got the text and was just like 'Oooooooooookay..'XD

Will do =)
