My Kingdom for a Nap
Busy, busy, busy.
Last week we pulled up all the carpets in the house.  Ugh, they were so gross.  I mean, I think carpet is gross all the time, but this was especially gross carpet.  The hardwood underneath was not in as good a shape as we had hoped.  This weekend we rented a great big sander, along with using the smaller hand sanders we already owned, and we spent two solid days stripping down the floors.  We were able to get all the nasty old varnish off, along with the vast majority of the discoloration and quite a bit of the scratches.  My bedroom, unfortunately, still looks pretty rough - you can only sand down so deep, and there are some serious gouges in the wood there.  I'll just have to artfully arrange the furniture, I guess.  My dad took today off work and he and my sister are going to refinish the floors today, then we'll do layers of polyurethane over the next couple nights - you have to let each layer dry and then sand it before you add the next.  It's a process.

We still have the kitchen to paint.  This weekend, while they were stripping the floors, I painted the stairwell going down to the basement.  We need to pull up the paneling in there and replace it, and then that will be done.  We have more projects to do in the kitchen but we're probably going to wait till after we move in (cabinets, counter top, fixing the stove hood, maybe putting in some open shelves).  Then we just need to put quarter round between all the baseboards and the floor, buy new front and back doors, and we should be ready to move in!

Of course, I still need to buy a new bed.  I am taking a clue from Tom Haverford, and I plan to buy the greatest bed ever.  Treat Yourself 2012.  I have spent far too much of my life sleeping on kinda crappy beds.  The only other piece of furniture we need to buy is a kitchen table - everyone we know is giving us furniture.  It's kinda awesome.

Exactly a week ago I decided to post the prologue of my novel.  My February writing progress was sad - nothing on either script, maybe 500 words on the novel.  Sharing and getting even a single line of feedback is often a great jump-start for me when I find myself stalled.  So I decided to read over it, just for a quick polish - I generally reread any time I share something, even if I've gone over it a thousand times before.  A week later, and I still haven't even read to the end of the prologue, because I keep writing new things, which means I have to change other things, et cetera and so forth, y'all know how the writing process goes.  But soon, mayhap!  Soon.

Absolutely not! You're a wonderful encouragement, and knowing there's someone out there who is looking forward to what I'm writing is the best kind of compliment. ♥
