This week's accomplishment: putting on pants.
Ugh, this week.  For almost two months, I've been fighting off an ear infection.  My ear would start to close up, or it would start to get sore, and I would up my Vit C and take some decongestant, and things would go back to normal for 3-5 days, then the cycle would begin again.  Last week, it became clear that the battle was over.  It was like there was some sentient ear infection imp living in my ear, determined that I would get an ear infection, damn it!  Tuesday the ear was completely closed, and really started to hurt, so I called and made a doctor's appointment.  By the time I saw my doctor the next day, the swelling had begun.

For those of you who are lucky enough to have never had a severe ear infection, the swelling is the best part, really.  My neck, where the Eustachian tube starts; the ear canal; behind the ear itself.  By Wednesday night, the side of my head was so swollen that I couldn't chew, I could hardly open my mouth, and it hurt to smile and even swallow.

And then the pain, oh, the pain.  I'm not even exaggerating when I say that Wednesday and Thursday was in the top three worst pain I've ever had in my life.  Thank GOD, my doctor gave me ~*~hyrdocodone.  But even that was really only effective for about two hours.  I was supposed to take one every 6-8 hours, but those two days, if I made it 4 hours, I was very proud of myself.  (It was so bad Wednesday night that at one point I was actually hoping that my eardrum would rupture just so the pressure would relent.)

By Saturday afternoon, the swelling and most of the pain was finally gone, but as of today, the stupid thing is STILL closed up, and it's achy and tender.  I have this horrible premonition that I'm going to finish out this round of antibiotics, and then it's going to go nuclear again.  Siiiiiigh.

It was kind of embarrassing, when I googled home remedies, that everything I read was like "your baby probably has an ear infection if she's tugging on her ear and crying!"  It's just sort of undignified to get an ear infection as an adult, let alone one that's bad enough that I ended up calling in sick to work three days in a row.  Blergh.

I know that pain. I got really severe ear infections as a kid, and then again when I was in high school. They are the WORST. I hope you only need the one round of antibiotics.

It's weird because I NEVER had an ear infection as a kid. The first one I ever had, I was 18 and had just flown, and I think the air pressure changes triggered it. And ever since, I've gotten them every few years just in that ear.

So sorry bb! *hugs* My dad got an ear infection once too (idk what it is with my family, but there were years when stuff like that was kind of trending so my siblings had it and then usually my dad got it, my mum gets sick when everybody else is fine again with something elseXD).

Hope it will go away and not come back!

Thanks! In the grand scheme of things it really does seem petty to whine about, but the past week did totally suck, haha.

My mom always gets sick like a week after it's cycled through the rest of the family, too! That's so funny.

But you had a perfectly good reason to whine bb ;)

I always imagine their immun system go 'No don't get sick yet, the brain says everybody else has to be taken nursed back to health before we go into sickness mode' or somethingxD

Right?! I just wanted to know if it was okay to put a hot compress on, I don't need to know about babies! Already feeling tons better just the next day, so that's pretty fab.

Oh ouch. Hope the antibiotics work. Bugs are getting worse and worse. R is going in for a cough that Will Not Stop this week.

Coincidentally I watched the X-Files S6 episode 'Drive' last night, with exploding inner ears caused by government argle-bargle humming transformers. I winced all the way through your post. Glad it didn't end similarly!

It always seems to happen just after I think to myself, "Self, you haven't been sick in a long time. All right!" Blergh.

Is the back of R's throat on fire and dry no matter what he does? That's what I got with my Cough that Would Not Stop last year, and that's pretty much how whooping cough presents in adults. Along with the Not-Stopping. So def. keep an eye on that.

Haha, yes, I am glad my inner ear didn't explode. I need to rewatch that episode, I haven't seen it for years, and I only vaguely remember Bryan Cranston in it.

He was given anti-bacterials, anti-fungals, some kind of nose spray...sigh, when you're immune system is suppressed they tend to throw the pharmacy at you.

I am worried about the growing resistance of infections though. And the recurrence of diseases 'eliminated' through vaccination. It doesn't bode well.

Ugh, that's awful. Hope it passes for good. :(

Yeah, I think it's about over with. Like jeez, ear, why don't you complain some more. I GET IT. So hopefully I'm good for a few years, lol.

It was really terrible! But it really has made me appreciate actually feeling good and having energy today, like seriously.
