Yay for employment! Yay!
This week I started my new job, which is my very first actual grown-up job.  I've been substituting for a few years, and it was getting to where I was only being called maybe once or twice a week, which just wasn't enough money to pay my bills anymore.  And as luck had it, one of the folks in my writer's group knew of an opening that was coming up where he worked, and let me know so I could get my application super-early, and I got the job!

I have a cubicle, and a computer, and my own extension.  You know when you were little and you had those little plastic houses you played in?  And some were little McDonald's or whatever, and you pretended to make the hamburgers and you made your sister go through the drive-thru and order, and you passed the plastic food through the window and you just felt so awesome and cool?  That's kinda how I feel right now.

Yesterday was rough, though; I'm not used to sitting under fluorescent lights all day (when I subbed I would turn half of the lights off before the kids got there - they never knew the difference), and I ended up having the worst headache of my life.  Not hyperbole.  It was the worst headache of my life.  I ended up coming home, taking a shower, and crawling into bed at 6pm.  I approached today very warily, but it was totally fine.  So.

(Does anyone else ever have the problem when you're typing up a post and every time you try to type an apostrophe it opens up the quick find field instead?  This is the third or fourth time it's happened to me, and it's only when I'm posting in LJ.  I have to switch over to HTML to put in the apostrophe and then switch back.  I searched in LJ Help and on Google and got nothing.  It is weird.)

Anyway, very happy to be gainfully employed.  I have benefits!  I have been without insurance for about five years - I had whatever paltry student insurance you have when you're going to school, but that doesn't really count.  Although working full-time is really cutting into my laying around and internet time.  And my writing time, unfortunately.  This weekend I'm going to really sit down and just write write write.  If I don't finish in November, though, it's not the end of the world.

Congrats! Having steady income is really nice, and pretty much the best thing about a job like that. But yeah, it does eat up a lot of your time.

I've never had the apostrophe problem you're describing, sorry.

It wouldn't be so bad if I could do my regular internet things, but they have a super strict internet policy. When I subbed I couldn't get on computers at all, which was easier; I'm on a computer all day and the internet is right there, but I can't really get on it much.

I do not know what the fuck this apostrophe thing is. Now it's being totally normal again. :/

I understand the frustration when the internet is right there, yet you can't do anything you need to do on it!

My work has LJ blocked, but I still find other things to look at. Mostly fanfic on other sidtes. Or I just email myself copy/pasted stuff from LJ to read.

Emailing yourself c&ped stuff is brilliant! I'm less worried about the actual sites showing up, since I don't think anything's blocked but Facebook, and more that allegedly IT sometimes remotely looks at OUR ACTUAL SCREENS, which I find kind of terrifying. It's less that I don't think I'm allowed to be on LJ, and more that I don't know if I want to let some strangers watch me be on LJ?

Ugh, IDK, heh.
