Babylon 5, John/Delenn, S3 post-War Without End
The environmental controls on the White Star, including temperature, had been designed for Minbari. Full Minbari. Delenn found herself shivering as she paced the sleeping room. It wasn’t just the cold, though; she was remembering Jeffrey’s face - the last time she would ever see him - as he left to pursue a destiny she still could not quite comprehend. It had been an exhausting voyage, Jeffrey’s departure far from the only thing that had made it so. Thirty more minutes until they docked with Babylon 5; she planned to head straight for her quarters, take the hottest shower imaginable, and climb into bed.
Delenn did not expect to sleep, though. Sleep would be hard to find, harder still to hold.
“Don’t have any blankets in this place?” Delenn spun, and John was standing there in the threshold, smiling gently at her. She realized that she had her arms wrapped around herself, and she lowered them quickly.
“I am fine,” she said, feeling nothing of the sort. John came to her, holding out his arms. There was nothing she could do; she let him wrap her up in a hug, his embrace tight.
“It just so happens I have some body heat to spare,” he murmured into her hair, his hands rubbing up and down her back.
Watching him sleep, his face relaxed and beautiful. A tower of light; gently falling snow. She looked up as the door opened. A woman’s voice. “Hello.”
“That better?” he asked, and she nodded. She had already lied to him once - what was another lie? Cold, so very cold. She knew what was coming, and she knew there was nothing she could do to avoid her fate. The humans had a saying she had never understood until this moment.
She had made her bed, and now she would have to lie in it.
